"Grandma,
You Said You’d Come…"
I still remember the look on her face.
My granddaughter was standing by the front door with her little backpack on.
She was ready.
Excited.
Waiting for me.
“Grandma, you said you’d come…”
And suddenly, I didn’t know what to say.
Because I had promised.
We were supposed to spend the afternoon together.
Just the two of us.
But I couldn't stop thinking about one thing…
What if I needed a bathroom while we were out?
What if we stayed too long?
What if there wasn't one nearby?
So I forced a smile and said,
“Maybe next time, sweetheart.”
She didn't argue.
She just quietly took off her backpack…and walked away.
That moment broke my heart.
Because I knew she didn't understand.
She probably thought Grandma simply didn't want to go.
But the truth was…
I wanted to go more than anything.
I just didn't want to spend another afternoon worrying about my urinary comfort.
And little by little…I realized my world had started getting smaller.

I Didn’t Want My World To Keep Getting Smaller
I started making little adjustments.
I'd use the bathroom before leaving.
I'd think about where the nearest restroom was.
And sometimes…
I'd simply stay home.
I told myself I was being practical.
But deep down, I knew what was happening.
I was changing my life around one worry.
And I couldn't stop asking myself:
“Why am I thinking about this so much?”
That question stayed with me.
Until one ordinary conversation made me look at women's urinary wellness
in a completely different way.
It happened while I was having coffee with my sister.
We were talking about the little changes women sometimes notice as they get older.
Then she mentioned something I'd never really thought about before…
the female urinary microbiome.
I stopped.
“What's that?”
She explained that researchers have been studying the communities of microorganisms
naturally found in the female urinary tract and how they may relate to urinary wellness.
I'd heard about the microbiome before.
But mostly in connection with the gut.
I had never thought about it in relation to women's urinary wellness.
So I became curious.
I started reading.
And that's when I discovered there was another way to think about everyday urinary wellness
one that wasn't simply about drinking less water or doing exercises…
but about understanding and supporting the good bacteria that researchers are
now linking to everyday urinary comfort.
That really made me stop and think.
Maybe I had been looking at the wrong part of the picture.
Instead of constantly asking myself what I should avoid…
I started asking a different question:
“What can I do to better support my body's natural balance?”
And honestly?
I wish I'd asked that question sooner.
I couldn't believe something so simple could change the way I thought about my everyday urinary wellness.
A few weeks later, my granddaughter came running through the front door.
“Grandma!”
She was holding a little flower in her hand.
“Come with me!”
For a second, I almost gave her the same answer.
Maybe tomorrow.
Maybe another time.
But then I remembered that afternoon.
Her backpack.
Her little face.
The way she quietly walked away.
And I couldn't do it again.
So I grabbed my sweater.
And said,
“Okay. I'm coming.”
Her whole face lit up.
We walked outside together — to the same park where I had once said "maybe next time.
"We talked.
We laughed.
We sat on a bench and shared a snack.
Nothing extraordinary happened.
And somehow…
that made it even more special.

Because for the first time in a long time, I wasn't thinking about where the nearest bathroom was.
I was thinking about her.
Her stories.
Her laugh.
Her little hand holding mine.
And that day reminded me of something I'd almost forgotten…
I don't want to spend my life planning around what might happen.
I want to be present for the moments that matter.
I want to say yes when my granddaughter asks me to come outside.
I want to laugh with her.
Walk with her.
Make memories with her.
Because I don't want her remembering me as the grandmother who always said,
“Maybe next time."
I want her to remember the grandmother who showed up.
Who held her hand.
Who laughed with her.
Who said yes.
And sometimes…
getting a little more confidence in your everyday life
can begin with simply asking a different question. ❤️
